Janise’s story belongs to a family tradition of food and hospitality in Jamaica.
At Jan’s Catering, she has been part of the work of making gatherings memorable, serving as a general manager and catering consultant. It is a world of shared meals, careful preparation, and the people behind every occasion.
That family story also runs through culinary education. First known as Jan’s School of Catering—with “Jan” short for Janise—the institution was later renamed Caribbean Institute of Hospitality as it grew. It has trained tens of thousands of students, helping them build businesses and pursue careers in Jamaica and around the world.
Now Janise is putting recipes and their stories on the page—a cookbook that gives the next chapter a home.

Originally named Jan’s School of Catering—“Jan” being short for Janise—the institution became Caribbean Institute of Hospitality as it grew. It has trained tens of thousands of students. Graduates have gone on to become entrepreneurs and build careers in Jamaica, the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, elsewhere in Europe, Japan and beyond.
Founded by Janise and her husband, Churchill Butler, C&J Pizza was Jamaica’s first locally owned company to produce and supply frozen pizzas to supermarkets. The pizza division also supplied freshly made pizzas to high schools across St. Andrew, Kingston and St. Catherine.
